Language Arts
ReadingAt Home Reading is tracked in our classroom biweekly on our reading chart. It is expected that each of our students read for at LEAST 15-20 minutes PER NIGHT! Please try and make time to read with your child. Developing the ability to read at this age is very important.
We are starting our "Fairy Tales" unit shortly. If you are interested, there is a large collection of fairy tales at both of the Lethbridge Public Library Branches and it would be great to hear that our students are engaging with material outside of the classroom! |
WritingWriting assignments come daily for our students. If you are interested, ask your child what they wrote about in their journal, in their daily 5 writing, or how their fairy tale is coming along. These will all be worked on throughout January and February.
If you want to work with your child on their writing, I would recommend getting lined paper and working on neatness. Give them a sentence using a spelling word, and help them with penmanship and spelling in their writing. Fractured Fairy Tales are almost complete. Ask your child about their progress, what their story is about, or possibly if they need help completing it. They should be completed NO LATER than April 22. |
The "Spelling Your Way" program is in use in our classroom. Students will receive their words in the agenda on Monday's and have a spelling test the following Thursday. There will also be assignments on www.spellingcity.com. Each student has a log-in on the front page of their agenda. The teacher page they will be directed to is with Mrs. Burke, but it is a shared page for all grade 3's.
